X-rays and MRI scans

It may be necessary for the osteopath to gain further information about the patient, in which case private X-Rays and MRI scans can be arranged promptly when clinically necessary. An appointment can made at a convenient time for the patient and the images and a full report are then sent back to the clinic in a matter of days.

Tomlinson Associates FAQs

Q.

What does treatment involve?

A.

Osteopathic treatment consists of rhythmic and oscillatory joint movements, joint and muscle stretching, soft tissue massage and gentle release techniques. Other gentle cranial osteopathic techniques can be used and are especially good for the treatment of very acute conditions, babies and children and the elderly. Sometimes, it may be necessary to perform a spinal or joint manipulation where an audible click may be heard. However, this is very safe, invariably pain free and lasts only a fraction of a second. Osteopathic treatment is a very relaxing and pleasant experience.
At Tomlinson Associates we make it a priority to help every patient and alleviate pain, with utmost consideration to their comfort and needs.

Q.

Is osteopathy safe?

A.

Yes, osteopathy is extremely safe. Our osteopaths are well trained and will take a detailed case history and perform many conventional medical routine screening procedures prior to treatment. This is to assess your suitability for osteopathic treatment and formulate a diagnosis. If the condition is not treatable then the osteopath will write to your GP with findings and recommendations.

Q.

Can I claim any of my treatment costs back?

A.

Our osteopaths are registered with most medical insurance companies, including BUPA, AXA PPP, Norwich Union and HSA. If you have a healthcare plan either through work or as a private policy, then you may be able to claim money back for osteopathic treatment. This may require a referral from a GP and acceptance from the insurer, but this can be worth investigating. Victims of work or road traffic accidents can sometimes claim their treatment costs back from the liable party. Again this is always worth checking with your insurer.

Q.

How much does it cost?

A.

Initial consultation and examination with an osteopath costs £40. Subsequent treatments cost £35 per session. Paediatric consultations cost £60 and usually take an hour. Depending on the complexity of the condition and the time required for treatment, follow up treatments vary from £35-£50 per session.

Q.

Do I need a referral from my G.P.?

A.

No, although many patients are referred by their G.P, osteopathy has enjoyed a position of respect for a very long time and requires no referral. 90% of the patients at Tomlinson Associates are referred to us by friends, relatives and colleagues because they have had great results themselves.
