X-rays and MRI scans
It may be necessary for the osteopath to gain further information about the patient, in which case private X-Rays and MRI scans can be arranged promptly when clinically necessary. An appointment can made at a convenient time for the patient and the images and a full report are then sent back to the clinic in a matter of days.
About Tomlinson Associates
What is Osteopathy?
Osteopathy was the first complementary therapy to be legally recognised by the medical profession. It is a unique system of diagnosis and treatment for the whole body not just the musculo-skeletal system. Osteopathy lays main emphasis on the intricate relations between all of the body’s systems. By working with the musculo-skeletal system, nervous system, blood supply and inherent healing capabilities, osteopaths have been successfully treating a wide variety of conditions since 1874.

About Osteopathy
About Osteopathy & How It Works
Osteopathy is a highly specialised and unique profession. It does not just focus on a specific site of pain or injury, but acknowledges that the whole body is connected and works as one highly organised and complex functional unit.
Osteopaths believe that you must examine and treat the body as a whole while taking into consideration all aspects of the individual. For this reason, an osteopath will take a detailed case history including; previous illnesses, any surgery, accidents or medication and then perform a full spinal and musculo-skeletal examination. Further medical assessments such as neurological and cardiovascular examination may be performed if required.
Following this detailed examination, the osteopath will formulate a diagnosis and treatment plan specific to the individual. This is directed at correcting the underlying cause of the problem and focuses on restoring normal function as well as easing discomfort and pain. Osteopaths strongly believe that by treating the cause of the problem and not just the symptoms, the body will be able to heal itself and be at less risk of future injury.
By adopting a holistic approach to the body, osteopaths can treat many other conditions and problems such as irritable bowl syndrome, period pain, headache, migraine and asthma.
Over six million people a year consult an osteopath for a wide variety of conditions and are benefiting from osteopathic treatment.
Cranial Osteopathy
What is Cranial Osteopathy?
Cranial osteopathy is a highly refined and subtle form of osteopathic treatment focused on restoring the structure and function of the body to a state of balance and harmony. It is extremely gentle and is especially useful for the treatment of babies and children and the elderly. Cranial osteopathy encourages the release of stresses and tensions throughout the body. These strains may have been present for some time but with very specific and gentle pressure applied correctly, relief can be immediate.Cranial Osteopathy for Children
It is a common belief that babies and children should have no structural stresses or strains in their bodies as they are ‘so young’. The reality is very different for many babies because the birthing process is one of the most stressful events of our lives. The baby, especially its head, is subjected to enormous forces as the uterus contracts and pushes it against the birth canal. During a normal birth, the baby has to turn and twist as it squeezes through the bony pelvis on it’s short but tortuous journey.
The baby’s head has a remarkable ability to absorb these stresses by allowing the soft bones of the skull to overlap. This process helps to reduce the diametre of the head enabling it to pass through the relatively small birth canal.
This is the reason many babies are born with odd shaped heads, “moulding”. Normally this disappears after the first few days. However, if the birth has been difficult, compressions and strains may remain.
As a result, the baby may have to live with some very uncomfortable stresses that may present as crying, feeding difficulties, sickness, colic, wind, sleep disturbances, recurrent infections including ear infections (glue ear) and sinus and adenoidal problems.
Later in life these problems may develop into headache, migraine, neck pain, lower back pain or sinusitis. Releasing these stresses and strains when the baby or child is very young can give immediate relief to both the baby and the parents and help alleviate future problems.
